BIO

Turkish born, Dwon grew up in Holton, Kansas. He began his life as a photographer early using his mother's Bell & Howell 35mm manual camera. In high school, in addition to being a hobbyist photographer, he was active in sports: Football, Wrestling, and Pole Vault (held the school Pole Vault record for 13 years). After high school Dwon attended the University of Kansas where he was very active in Fencing (qualified for three US National Championships). He later went on to coach fencing at KU and attended US Olympic Coaches College seminars 3 years in a row. He was also into Wind Surfing, Rock Climbing, Camping, and anything we call extreme sports today. While attending KU, he worked in the Kansas Collection Research Library as an Archival Preservationist, taking old manuscripts, books, maps, and photographs and preserving them archivally. Dwon graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Anthropology, and Sociology, specializing in Mayan Archaeology and Epigraphy (Decipherment of Mayan Hieroglyphs). He spent two years as an Archaeologist (camera in hand) traveling throughout Central America: Belize, Guatemala, and southern Mexico. In 1994, Dwon worked a site in Belize with colleague William "Chap" Ross to become the first archaeologists to excavate a Mayan well. Deciding to pursue a childhood dream Dwon became a Police Officer with the City of Lawrence, Kansas. Realizing being a Police Officer wasn't what he thought it would be, he moved to Oregon to get a Masters in Education and International Montessori Instructor Certification. A few turns on life's path and he became an Emergency Medical Technician and CPR Instructor at Lifeline Health and Safety www.cprlifeline.com. Realizing a life long love of photography, he decided to study photography at the New York Institute of Photography www.nyip.com and opened studio G photography in Portland, Oregon with his wife Bria. The New York Institute of Photography, established in 1910, is the world's oldest and largest photography school.

In the 6 years since Dwon and Bria opened the doors on their photography business Dwon has developed this web site and created a large web following. Messages come in all the time from devoted fans who love the new updates to the site. Dwon has been working as a fashion photographer in Portland, Or. and photographed a two page spread in the program for Portland's Fashion Week. Dwon was honored to be one of the primary photographers for the event. When it comes to Fashion Shows, he's asked for by name by Clothing Designers and Models for his Fashion Runway Photography because he shoots for the designers and models. His devotion to professionalism and perfection ensures each model and each clothing design is photographed in its entirety so the designers and models can decide for themselves how to format the images they want.

Dwon recently photographed radio, television, and stage celebrity Daria O'Neill for her new radio show at 105.1 The Buzz -- www.1051thebuzz.com. Working with Doug, Skippy, and Daria was a lot of fun, and the images show it.

The New York Institute of Photography published an article about Dwon in it's April 2004 issue of Photo World. The article focuses on his fashion photography and brilliant use of Photoshop in the creation of his images. This article has brought Dwon in contact with photographers from all over the world.

A recent assignment was for Hair M salon in Portland. It was a really fun shoot. "I don't trust anyone but Hair M with my hair so it was nice to know that they felt the same way about me and their photography."

Dwon specializes in what he calls "Modern Portraiture". His work reflects the modern world and its cultural influences. His favorite subject is people. He says, "Photographing people is what I do best. I love it. Every job is a challenge to find the perfect composition. I hear people say they hate being photographed because they look bad in photos. I tell them it's not their fault, it's the photographer's. Everyone is beautiful or handsome, it's up to the photographer to show it. I can make anyone look great and my customers know it. That's why they keep coming back."

Dwon uses a three step process in his image capture. Shooting either digital or film using Nikon equipment is the first step. Dwon is an official Nikon™ Professional Services Member. On the Board of Directors of the Portland Metro Photographers Association, Dwon has the resources to bring any concept to realization. Editing and printing is done digitally using Photoshop on one of his Macs. Because Dwon is a member of the NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) customers can rest assured that their images are being worked by one of the best Photoshop artists around. Step three is the custom framing phase. Customers decide on an image, then on a frame. As a custom framer, Dwon can finalize your photographs and turn them into a framed masterpiece that you can proudly hang in your home for generations to come.

Dwon is a craftsman in the truest sense of the word. As a carpenter would work in wood using old world tools, he works with images using the latest technology. The results are amazing.

Dwon says, "The best part about my process comes after each step when I show the client my work. After photographing the client, I show them the unedited image and they always say, 'That looks great'. Then I work over the image in Photoshop and the client says, '...WOW...' Then it's on to the framing. When it's all complete the customer is usually speechless. Most people don't realize that exceptional quality is still available. When they see their finished work of art, whether it's basic framed portrait or a giant canvas print, and they tell me they didn't know a portrait could be this finely crafted, that's when I know I've done my job."

As well as being a Nikon™ Professional Services Member and having been on the Board of Directors of the Portland Metro Photographer's Association (PMPA), Dwon teaches several community education and private Photography classes and Workshops in the Portland Metro Area.
